Emergency Communications:
The West Central Texas
Council of Governments helps 18 of the 19 regional
counties* provide emergency communications
services to the residents through a network of public
safety answering points located in sheriffs’ offices and
police departments across the region. Emergency
Communications staff are responsible for budgeting,
equipment purchases, monitoring and compliance to Texas
State rules and regulations regarding 9-1-1. In
addition, regional 9-1-1 related services include:
Equipment

Provide and maintain 9-1-1 equipment and software to
the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in the
region – a total of 17 PSAPs

Provide technical assistance and purchasing of 9-1-1
addressing equipment

Maintain inventory of all PSAP and addressing
coordinators equipment
Mapping
-
Developed and maintain accurate maps of each county
in the region

Maintain databases in maps (Master Street Address
Guide (MSAG), Emergency Service Number (ESN), Zip
Code, Phone Exchange, Addresses, Roads)

Take
Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates for
structures in counties

Maintain lat/long coordinates of county addressing

Print
maps for various county government offices

Maintain current list of 9-1-1 Addressing
Coordinators in the region

Maintain MSAGuide for the region

Assist
counties with the public obtaining addresses

Submit
new addressing/corrections to 9-1-1 database
